Focus Countries
Our work specialises in Sub-Saharan Africa, including Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, South Sudan and Uganda.
- Burkina Faso
In Burkina Faso, West Africa, we support expanding local eye care, especially for children. Through projects on inclusive education, rehabilitation and access to work and income for people with disabilities, we accompany people with disabilities into an independent future. - Ethiopia
In Ethiopia, we train eye care professionals and support eye clinics in their daily work. We are particularly active in the fight against preventable, infectious causes of blindness, such as trachoma, and in educating and rehabilitating children with disabilities. - Kenya
Access to education and the labour market for people with disabilities is our main focus in Kenya so that they can support themselves and their families and lead self-determined lives. - Mozambique
In the eye clinic of Light for the World in the port city of Beira and numerous smaller hospitals, we provide the population of Mozambique with eye care. The country’s first pediatric ophthalmologist works with us as well. Children and young people with disabilities get access to education and rehabilitation. - South Sudan
Our work in South Sudan includes inclusive emergency aid, rehabilitation and education for internally displaced persons. Strengthening the rights of people with disabilities, concrete improvement of living conditions and peaceful coexistence in the refugee camps, promoted by sports projects, is our concern. - Uganda
Child and adult eye health and access to the labour market for people with disabilities are our key concerns in Uganda.
