We Can Work: Inception Meeting in Nairobi
We held an Inception Meeting for the We Can Work Programme in Nairobi, Kenya, together with United Disabled Persons of Kenya (UDPK) and other organisations of people with disabilities. Co-created by young people with disabilities and our partners, the programme aims to promote access to dignified and fulfilling work for youth with disabilities.
Funded by the Mastercard Foundation, the programme is implemented in Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Nigeria, Ghana, and Senegal in partnership with the African Disability Forum and Crosswise Works.
Coping with crises: resilience and inclusion in West Africa
The ReCouVrer project has officially launched its second phase!
Its aim? To enhance the resilience of marginalised people in West Africa in the face of various crises. Our implementing partner, OCADES Kaya, has assembled a dynamic team, including Disability Inclusion Facilitators (DIFs), to lead the initiative.
The project – led by Light for the World, Caritas Austria, Red Cross Austria, and OCADES Kaya and funded by the Austrian Development Agency – focuses on inclusive activities such as resilience building, equitable employability, and food and nutritional security.

Together with the Enabling Education Network (EENET), we are offering a free online course on Universal Design for Learning (UDL). In this course, you will get a recap of inclusive education, gain an understanding of UDL, and learn how to plan lessons the UDL way.

UNICEF partners for emergency education in Ethiopia
Children with disabilities will receive emergency education under a partnership between Light for the World Ethiopia and UNICEF. The project is set to reach more than 2,200 children with disabilities in the Amhara region of Ethiopia.
In Amhara, more than 2.7 million children are out of school due to humanitarian crises and conflict, according to the Ethiopia Education Cluster (December 2023).
To make this project a success, we are collaborating with our partners Berhan Lehetsanat, Help for Persons with Disabilities Organization (HPDO), Imagine One Day and the Amhara Regional Education Bureau.
Gender and climate training in South Sudan
Our Gender and Climate Expert, Jennifer Pitter-López, led a training in Juba, South Sudan.
Disability Inclusion Facilitators (DIFs) and colleagues from Plan International and CEPO South Sudan played interactive games to explore the intersections of gender, disability, and climate change. They used tools – like the intersectional discrimination pyramid – to explore underlying discrimination and develop solutions to ensure women and men with disabilities are included in climate action.
