Closure of Light for the World Germany

Three smiling children sit together on a concrete step in Quelimane, Mozambique. In the centre is Fatima, who wears a pink top and a bandage over her eye after cataract surgery. She is flanked by a girl in a striped blue dress and a boy in a bright yellow top.
Fatima, a young girl from Mozambique, smiles with two other children following her cataract operation at the central hospital of Quelimane. A bandage covers her eye as she recovers from surgery.

Our international work continues

Light for the World – Licht für die Welt e.V. will close its Munich office and dissolve the association on 30 April 2026. This affects only the German branch.

International work, including programmes in Ethiopia, Uganda, Mozambique, Burkina Faso, South Sudan and Kenya, will continue under Light for the World International.

Our mission to drive lasting change in eye health and disability rights remains unchanged.

Donations

From 1 May 2026, donations via Light for the World Germany will no longer be accepted and the bank account will be closed. All donations received by 30 April 2026 will continue to support our projects, and donation receipts required for tax purposes will be sent automatically. Standing orders may be cancelled early, and any remaining SEPA direct debits will be collected for the last time by mid-April 2026.

Supporters wishing to continue their contributions can do so through Light for the World International at light-for-the-world.org/donate-now.

Light for the World International has been accepted into the Transnational Giving programme of the Maecenata Stiftung (Maecenata Foundation). Donations from Germany therefore remain possible and can be claimed for tax purposes. The Spendenbescheinigung (donation receipt) is issued by Maecenata Stiftung, which also appears as the recipient organisation on the receipt itself.

Donating online

On the Maecenata Stiftung donation portal, Light for the World International is already pre-selected as the recipient organisation if you access it through this button:

Donating by bank transfer

Alternatively, donations can be made directly to the account below. Please ensure that the Verwendungszweck (payment reference) always reads TG26041 Light for the World International, so that the donation can be allocated correctly. For a Spendenbescheinigung (donation receipt) of 300 euros or more, please also include your full postal address and an email address.

Donation receipts

There is no minimum amount. For donations up to 300 euros, the vereinfachter Zuwendungsnachweis (simplified proof of donation, accepted by German tax authorities for smaller amounts) is sufficient and can be downloaded directly from the Maecenata Stiftung website. For donations of 300 euros or more, Maecenata Stiftung issues the Spendenbescheinigung automatically in the month following receipt of the donation, provided that the donor’s name and address have been supplied either with the transfer or by email. An accompanying letter identifies the project (Light for the World) separately.

Further information on the process is available directly from Maecenata Stiftung.

We sincerely thank all donors for their trust and commitment over the years, which has helped improve the lives of many people.

Our approach

Promoting disability rights

There are many barriers to inclusion. With our partners, we tackle equal access to health, education, work and protection in emergencies.

Championing inclusive education

Tens of millions of children with disabilities are being left behind. Yet every child has the right to inclusive, quality education.

Promoting eye health

90% of vision impairment and blindness is preventable or treatable. Everyone deserves access to quality eye care, wherever they live.
